Ai Futaki has set two new Guinness World Records for bare diving. As a one-of-a-kind aquatic artist, both in Japan and abroad, she is active on the world stage as a bridge between the underwater and land worlds. She dives with her own lungs, just like marine mammals, without the use of air cylinders, and blends in with them to become one of them, expressing herself as she is, sometimes as a subject and sometimes as a photographer herself. This time, the world is seen through the eyes of Ai Futaki. She expresses the connection that "we are part of nature and we live with nature.
Ai Futaki is a TEDxTokyo speaker, a 2012 Jounetsu Tairiku "Ai Futaki" World Media Festival Gold Prize winner, and the NHK special program "Precious Blue" has become a series of programs. In recent years, she has collaborated with ISSEY MIYAKE and other world-renowned photographers beyond the borders of her country. As a photographer, she will hold a solo exhibition "Nakano Ima" in 2019 in Madrid, Spain.
The title of her solo exhibition, "Chu-kin", is a word that indicates the present, which is in the middle of the eternal past and future. It is neither the past nor the future, but the present moment. To have one's thoughts and senses centered on the present moment, to focus on the present moment without being distracted by other extraneous things, to raise one's awareness and live one's own life.
