ABOUT

Tile artist Haruko Matsumoto will hold a solo exhibition, "Wandering Ceramic Pieces," from August 28 (Mon.) to September 9 (Sat.). Following last year's solo exhibition, this is the second time for Matsumoto to exhibit a new series of about 20 works, focusing on the "joints" that are usually formed when tiles are laid.
The series is full of rhythm and dynamism, like a painting, in which the "tile surface" and the "joints" are blended flat, transcending their traditional roles as "tile surface" and "joints" to enhance the tile surface.
We hope you will take this opportunity to view the new series.

Artist's Message
Ceramic pieces sparkle with light inside.
It is like the light reflected on the surface of water as it freely and spontaneously feels the wind.
I use materials (tiles and mortar) made from soil and water, which are products of nature,
I hope to create works that can be felt with the sense of touch and bring natural light back onto the screen.
The mosaic is made up of ceramic fragments that shimmer and sway, creating surfaces and lines. Like growing a plant, the mosaic slowly expands as it interacts and grows with time.
