ABOUT

Introduction: Welcome to Art for Thought, the premier art gallery in Ginza, Tokyo, where we showcase the best of contemporary Japanese art. Our gallery features exciting and innovative works of art from both established and emerging artists. We aim to introduce talented young artists from all over Japan to a global audience, and this month we are proud to present the breathtaking creations of the Yamamoto brothers, Shin and Ryo, who are redefining the world of Bizen pottery with their unique and modern approach.

From February 16 to February 23, we are delighted to host an exhibition of Bizen pottery entitled "Izuru Seito" by the Yamamoto brothers. Shin and Ryo, who were born and raised in Bizen, are carrying on the legacy of their father, the renowned Bizen potter Izuru, and their grandfather, the late Living National Treasure Yamamoto Toho. They are known for incorporating new elements into traditional Bizen pottery techniques, creating a new style that is both contemporary and timeless.

Their innovative approach to pottery-making is on full display in their latest works, which blend Bizen clay with pigments and soil from Burgundy, France, to create a unique texture and color palette. Their creations evoke a sense of warmth and comfort, while also challenging traditional notions of what Bizen pottery should look like.

The exhibition features a variety of pieces, including cups, plates, and bowls, each one beautifully crafted with a unique personality. Shin's works are characterized by their bold shapes and vivid colors, while Ryo's pieces showcase a delicate and intricate style. Both brothers have won numerous awards and accolades for their work, including recognition at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition.

Although the exhibition ends on February 23, we are excited to continue offering dishes and meals served in the Yamamoto brothers' beautiful pottery. Come and experience the warmth and sophistication of Bizen pottery with a modern twist at Art for Thought.
