ABOUT

We are pleased to present an exhibition of works by Shizushin Matsuda from January 14 (Tue) to February 1 (Sat), 2020.

This will be his third solo exhibition at ART FOR THOUGHT, and will feature his recent series of works using volcanic ash, gofun, and foil from his hometown of Kagoshima, as well as works that represent the starting point of his activities over the past 40 years.

This exhibition marks the 30th anniversary of the first solo exhibition of Matsuda, who has been earnestly seeking the essence of color and matter for many years. We hope you will take this opportunity to view his works.
Shizumune matsuda
Born in Kagoshima Prefecture.
Using volcanic ash from Sakurajima, he creates abstract paintings with his unique mixed technique using oil, acrylic, alkyd tempera, gofun, mizuhoshi, sumi ink, and foil for Japanese-style painting. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and other cities. Group exhibitions have been held in Japan, Spain, Korea, Canada, and other countries. In addition to mural painting, various graphic design, art direction, gallery talks, dialogues, and collaborations with contemporary poets, musicians, butoh dancers, and painters, he will create "JAZZ DREAMS" with seven steel objects at "Oto Riverside Terrace" in front of Higashi Okazaki Station, Aichi, in 2019.
His works have been used in the movies "The Street of Passing," "A Loathsome Woman," and the Chinese web drama "Shanghai Joshi Zukan," and his picture book with CD "Miro and the Piano in the Forest" (Kazama Shobo).
