ABOUT

Introducing Palm calligrapher Ryuta Aoki, an artist who creates stunning works of art using just the palm of his hand and acrylic paint. Join us for a unique exhibition showcasing his work, from September 14-21, 2013 at Art for Thought in Ginza, Tokyo.

Ryuta Aoki's calligraphy is not created with a brush or ink, but rather with the artist's own hand. His letters take on a distinct, fluid quality that is truly captivating. Aoki sees great potential in this style of calligraphy, believing that it allows for the expression of individuality in a way that traditional methods cannot.

This exhibition will showcase Aoki's representative works, produced during his twenties and including pieces created during his travels both in Japan and abroad. Don't miss this opportunity to experience the unique world view of a talented and innovative artist.

Join us for the opening ceremony and live painting event on September 15th from 3:00-4:30pm, where Aoki will demonstrate his palm calligraphy technique. Admission is ¥1,500, which includes one drink and one plate. The exhibition will be open from 11:00am to 11:00pm from September 14-21, with the exception of September 15th, when it will close at 6:00pm.

Born in 1983 in Myoko City, Niigata Prefecture, Ryuta Aoki began writing at the age of six. He studied aerospace engineering at Tokai University and began working as a palm calligrapher in 2011. This will be his first solo exhibition, featuring his representative works from his twenties.
