ABOUT

ART FOR THOUGHT is pleased to present the group exhibition “AFT Market 2025 - Navigating through the multiple worlds”, which will be held from February 14 - March 1, 2025.

The “ars” [ = technology, Latin word from which the word “art” was derived from] required of today's digital natives, who freely move between multiple devices, social media, metaverse, and the real world, may be to perceive the world not as one thing, but as multiple things, and to enjoy the voyage of such multiple “worlds”.

Through the stimuli we receive in respective “worlds”, we will be able to express ourselves more fully and multilayered through the way we behave. We will exhibit works by young artists who are experimenting with a way of world creation that is different from that of pre-collage* and mirror world**.

*A concept taken up by cultural anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss in his 1962 book “The Savage Mind.” In French, it means “to make things with one's own hands using ready-made tools and materials.

**Mirror image world where the real world exists in a digitized virtual space.

Buri

Born in 2000. Began working mainly in acrylics after his high school art teacher invited him to join the art club in 2017. He had been inspired by surrealism even before joining the club, which has influenced almost all of his work to date. In 2019, he switched his technique to oil and began painting mainly his own face. 2020, he switched his technique to watercolor and began painting mainly his own hands and feet in sketchbook size. In 2023, he began painting his own body on a large canvas as a motif in order to create something that could be called an artwork rather than a practice.
